Blockchain to protect information

I was just wondering how I can utilise blockchain to protect user data and integrity of that data.

I want to store information on a USB memory(offline storage). How can I use blockchain to check the offline storage data?

Since the blocks need to be connected peer2peer, I assume block chain is not really useful if the data is offline and nodes cannot communicate with other nodes?
